Make Money From Your Hobby

Many people are passionate about their hobbies. They make time in their lives for them, spend lot of money on them, and even sometimes move their homes, families and jobs just to be closer to their hobbies!

But even if you just enjoy your hobby and perhaps wouldn’t class yourself as a fanatic, wouldn’t it be great if you could earn money online – possibly even a full-time income, from simply telling others people about your passion?

Well it’s not just a dream – it’s VERY possible.

More and more people are starting ‘hobby blogs’ to tell the world about their particular interest.

And with just a few tweaks and a little technology, it’s relatively easy to make a solid income from your hobby.

Think about it this way – most people are already experts in one or two areas, and usually it’s connected with their hobby.

For example, the sailing enthusiast will know all about nautical terms, knots, how to sail a boat, navigation and so on.

But did you know that there are tens of thousands of hobbyists in your niche that are hungry to read about your experiences, ideas and expertise?

And best of all – they’ll be happy to pay you for some of it.

Imagine getting up in the morning and instead of joining the rat race to go and work to make your employer rich, you do a little work on your hobby blog – the same hobby that you’ve probably been enjoying all weekend.

Best of all, when you check your bank or Paypal account you find that you’re making money from blogging about the thing you enjoy doing most – your hobby.

Sounds like a dream I know, but let me tell you now, there are hundreds, thousands and even TENS of thousands of people RIGHT NOW making good money online from blogging about their hobby.

If you’re passionate about your hobby you can very probably profit from it – perhaps even make it your full-time income.

Turn your hobby into a regular monthly income!

  4. Hi Anna, great post and I totally agree about sharing your hobbies and all the knowledge that has been accumulated in an area someone is passionate about. The interenet has provided people with a platform to share that knowledge and make an income from it. Good luck with the challenge!

  5. Hi Anna,

What a shame the 1st 3 comments are typical spam comments and you’ve left them their automated spammed links :(
(I would delete them personally – you wont need them now that you’re in the 100 blog challenge)

As for your post, I was going to try and be funny and add some quotes from the spam comments…lol – But in all seriousness… it’s amazing just how big the net is!

A friend had a hobby breeding dachshunds… not just normal ones but a particular colour and style… And she still managed to find forums and community’s for her exact hobby to the letter!

So I don’t doubt that any hobby could well be a niche one could make a profit with!

  7. There are so many things to blog about when you stop and think about it. Sometimes, the people around us in real life don’t appreciate our talking non-stop about our hobby or our favorite thing to do. What better way to express that need to share than with a group of like-minded people online. I like talking about UFC fights – not many of my friends appreciate it in the same way I do. Yes, to hobby blog enthusiasts!

  9. Hi Anna,

Great post and very well written. I agree, people just don’t realise that something that they love could just be the help and advise that someone else is looking for. It’s not difficult to start a blog, if I can do it so can everyone else. If your have a mentor like John Thornhill, it makes it even easier.

Good luck on your road to financial freedom.

  15. You’ve just outlined the best thing about blogging Anna, YOU choose what to write about, so why not write about something you are interested in – your hobbies. 8)

When I started blogging I had no particular plan but discovered I was writing lots of posts about running and super-hero comics, so I set up websites for these hobbies. Fellow bloggers like Mandy also encouraged my painting hobby, and I now have a website for pop art.

Blogging can be the start of lots of new ventures. 8) Good luck with the 100 comment challenge Anna. :-)

loved the post, reminded me of an interview on Radio last year. The lady had setup a website, related to I think it was garden gnomes just as a sort of way to satisfy her own curiosity about them, it turns out because of that she became the expert on this topic and was quite keen to point out in the interview that it was all a big accident.

Interesting post. I read recently that most bloggers do not make much money from their blogs and that their income comes from the products they create. I think a lot of people find it hard to get enough traffic to their blogs to make money. I’m still hoping!

I read some, but as a hobby, I really don’t have one. Should I get one? Should I look for people who are passionate about their hobby and interview them? Yes that will work. Just because I don’t have or know this hobby doesn’t mean I can’t make money from it. I’ll find people that are passionate about thier hobbies and do interviews. There’s been more than adequate proof of it’s success and it’s potential. Good luck ahead Anna, Steve D.

What a nice topic you’ve bought forward and a well written post.

Yeah, expressing how we feel about our hobby and talking about it on our blog with like minded people makes so much of sense that talking about it with family / friends / colleague / acquaintance that dont really appreciate it that much that you do … of-course everyone has their own hobbies …

This also channels the right information to the right people and definitely can be monetised big time.

  50. Hi Anna,

There are many people that start blogging about their hobby without ever thinking of making any money of if, but then they became millionaires (or almost millionaires). On the other hand there are many marketers that are not making any money at all!

That’s why every internet marketer has to enter a niche market that has passion about it (or at least like it) and not just for the money. If you have passion about something then you will enjoy writing and reviewing different affiliate products.

There is nothing better than having a hobby that makes you enough money to live. You will never feel that you are working!

  54. Hi Anna,

I definitely agree you can turn your hobby into income. However, there’s also another thing I’d like to add – know your sources. While you can do the things yourself, the tools which you need to bring in the money might not be available or you don’t know how. Thus, business is a different matter. It’s a trial and error thing in hobbies to make mistakes but when you put money in the mix, mistakes means demotivation. It’s best then to be persistent and not give up with mistakes happen.

Having your passions or hobbies as a source of income is a tremendous incentive, whether it works or not is another matter.

You do need to have a market for your interests or you can waste an awful lot of time and effort. You need to research the market first, if this shows that there is a demand then that’s great and you are on a winner. Research is the key.

  64. Hi Anna,

Great, valuable post. I’m always amazed at how lots of people don’t realise there is at least one subject they are very knowledgable on. Just to name one – think of all the sub niches you could write about from the “raising children” broad niche. Also, it is easy to be regarded as an “expert” on any given topic, if you have researched it well and regularly produce new products and contribute regularly to forums, etc.

  65. Hi Anna, This is the first time I have visited yoour blog and if this is a sample of the content you provide then I will be coming back again and again. You are soooo right. I struggled to identify a niche that I could look to earn an income from. It is only very recently that I realised I had spent the last year re-designing sites and re-theming them. I enjoy it and love that I get an instant result thet I can see on screen. All of a sudden I have a niche to at least investigate and two or three potential products involving WordPress. I feel invigorated and more enthusiastic than I have for a while.

To anybody reading this who is struggling to find a niche, think of something that you do on a near daily basis or so. It may be watching a certain tv program or reading a certain magazine. It could even be real ale festicals or similar. It may seem silly or a bit wild but it will be something that you can become an authority on and can then be turned into a possible income stream. If you are passionate about it, it is guaranteed that others will be as well. Unless it’s naked gnome ornaments or something (you never know though!!)
